Team USA Para-badminton made its first appearance at the Pan Am Para-Badminton Championships and it was both an historic and a golden moment. Gold medalists Miles Krajewski and Danh Trang won the Men’s Short Stature doubles by winning 3 matches without loss to top the field of 4 teams. They ascended to the top of the podium and received their Pan American Championships Gold Medals having beaten teams from Canada, Brazil and Peru.

In a surprise win, Miles Krajewski ascended the podium to his second Gold as he won the Men’s Short Stature Singles. His father, Mike Krajewski, acting as coach and manager for Team USA commented, Miles, “he preforms well under pressure”. This is a mild description of someone who pulled out a scintillating match that had his coaching father’s nerves on edge. A “nail biting” semi-finals against Brazil’s Dhiego Guimaraes with scores of 21-15, 21-23, ended 27-25 in the third game and propelled Miles to the finals. The next day he defeated Peru’s Hector Salva Tunque with less drama by the scores 21-12 21-19 and successfully completed his double crown.

Matches can be viewed on You Tube, the links are listed at the end of this article. In their own words:

“It was an honor and a privilege representing the US. This definitely wouldn’t have been possible without USA Badminton and the various coaches/players who’ve helped along the way. I hope that this encourages even more athletes, coaches, and sponsors to become involved in the growing US Para-Badminton program.”

— Danh Trang

“I feel very lucky to be part of the first USA Para-badminton team to compete in the Pan Am Para-Badminton Championships…. The competition was tough and the victories weren’t easy, but more important than the victories, I have made a lot of new friends.”

— Miles Krajewski

“I’d like to thank USA Para-Badminton for all of the help they have provided. I also appreciate the commitment they are making to increase participation and awareness of this great program. I am very proud that we were able to bring home the Gold for the United States!”

— Mike Krajewski

“USA Badminton is so proud of how Miles and Danh played in both their Singles and Doubles matches at the Para Pan Am event in Columbia this past weekend. Thanks to the USOC and USA Badminton, and all the coaches for helping these athletes achieve their success. Our program is in a beginning stage of identifying athletes getting prepared for the 2020 Paralympics and this Gold medal performance is a fantastic start for Para-Badminton in the USA.”

http://www.gazetteandherald.co.uk/news/14650964.Rising_para_badminton_star_courts_life_as_a_lawyer/

RISING Para-badminton star Dan Bethell is taking his eye off the shuttle cock for a while to find out about life as a solicitor with a Devizes firm.

Mr Bethell, 20, who is a member of Corsham Badminton Club, who suffers from cerebral palsy on the right side of his body, is studying law at Bristol University while training hard at his sport.

Now the former Sheldon schoolboy is doing work experience in the commercial and litigation department of Wansbroughs in Devizes. He said: “Having discovered badminton at 12, I have been very lucky and I am now ranked 1st in the England Para team.

“I will be representing England at the SL3 level in the European championships in Holland in October, although my ambition is to represent England at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 when Para-Badminton will be included for the first time.”

Alongside the hard work and training for badminton he is also keen to have a career in the Law. Wansbrough partner Oliver Price said: “Wansbroughs was keen to give Dan a useful insight into the work of a successful law firm in Wiltshire.

“We will all be following his progress at the European Championships and hopefully medal success at Tokyo in 2020.”

Para badminton World 2017 to South Korea

07.11.2016

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has awarded the 11th BWF Para Badminton World Championships to the City of Ulsan in South Korea.

The BWF Council announced that the Korea Badminton Association for the Disabled (KBAD) will host next year’s tournament; another important step ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in which badminton will make its debut.

Commenting on the two bids received the BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer congratulated both the National Paralympic Committee of China and KBAD for their vision of providing a world-class experience for Para badminton athletes globally for the Championships.

“We are honoured to have received two really comprehensive bids which is very promising for the future of the Para Badminton World Championships,” said Høyer.

“The application from the City of Ulsan showed strong public and community engagement and it was clear that the City and community are very much behind the Championships.”

KBAD and South Korea have hosted a number of signature Para badminton events in recent years including the Para Badminton World Championships in 2009 in Seoul, the Asian Para BadmintonChampionships 2012 in Yeon Ju-Gun and the 2014 Asian Para-Championships in Incheon in which badminton was played.

This history of hosting successful events, the strong technical aspects as well as the City and community support made SouthKorea a very attractive option for the next Para Badminton World Championships.

The most recent edition of the Para Badminton World Championships, held last year in Stoke Mandeville, England, attracted 232 athletes from 35 nations who competed in 22 medal events.

Organisers in Ulsan City expect to host more athletes from more countries as the best para-badmintonplayers in the world compete there in November 2017.

My Dream: Prosthetic Running Leg

Thank you.

Incredibly, before the fundraiser is even closed, we reached and exceeded the goal. We have raised 20,897 dollars in one month. 104%.

I will be able to get my sports prosthetic and will be able to do things I have never imagined I would be able to do.

I’ve dreamed about this for a long time. Now, it has come true. I am ecstatic.  I don’t know what to do with myself right now.

I am blessed.

Saying thank you can’t even begin to cover how I feel.

This is all because of each and every person who donated and shared and supported this fundraiser. Everyone who had a part did something enormous and look where we are now. We made it.

I’m now looking forward to an incredible badminton season and an incredible future of staying active and healthy because of you.

I will keep sending out updates about the process of getting my prosthetic because you all now share this adventure with me! It won’t stop here!
